Modified Nationals Top 10

1 06 2010

Right, after sifting through the pictures I was having somewhat of a hard time deciding which ones to post up. Which is when it struck me that using the age old method of the Top 10 system might just work. So here we go, my Top 10 cars from The Modified Nationals 2010. There may be some controversial choices in there but I’ve tried to keep the choices are varied as possible as well as choosing from a lot of different budget ranges. So sit back, relax and please feel free to debate my choices.

Modified Nationals 2010 – Preview

30 05 2010

Well today I headed to Peterborough for the Annual Modified Nationals show. Now, I have to admit, I was slightly apprehensive as the Mod Nats does have something of a reputation for being a plastic tat fest galore (that can be taken one of two ways). Now while there is still an element of this kind of thing I was pleasantly surprised to see a really good amount of high quality, really well modified cars on display. There is no doubting the influence Euro or Cleaned styled cars are having on the UK scene at the moment as the place was rammed with them. Now while some elitists hate this, I’m all for it, I’d much rather attend a show full of cars like this than one with just a couple of gems amongst the plastic and neons. So, here is a sneak preview of what turned out to be a surprisingly enjoyable show. More pictures up tomorrow and the whole gallery will be on the flickr by the end of the week.

Sunday Driver

26 05 2010

The Morris Minor, the archetypical classic car. It evokes images of flat caps, picnic rugs and a flask of tea. What a pleasant way to travel through the summer Countryside on your way to Steam Rally or a Village Feat. But hang on, there’s something wrong. This one pictured does not seem to be sauntering along in a respectable manner. And wait! That isn’t a country lane. And why is the driver wearing a Helmet like he’s Sterling Moss? This is all so wrong, I mean, look at those fancy pants wide wheels, hideous! I would bet my last penny that the poor thing isn’t running it’s original A-Series either. No, I bet it’s been unceremoniously ripped out in place of something more ‘performance based’, a Fiat Twin-Cam no doubt. What a terrible waste of a classic car… I mean, who wants to go fast afterall?

Poco Coupé Rosso

30 04 2010

Have you ever seen a more perfect little Coupé than this? It’s a Fiat 850 Coupé and judging by the stickers and propped but boot-lid looks to be running some nice Abarth tuning parts. Many people say that the Italians make the most beautiful cars. Well when you look at some of the cars they produced in the 60’s it becomes very hard to disagree. Can you imagine Fiat producing anything as pretty as this today?

FIAT 500 Raduno di Trentino

30 04 2010

Back in September Club Cint Cent Trentino held it’s annual rally through the mountains of Northern Italy. The rally is open to all Fiat 500’s from the most painstakingly restored cars through to the much more frantic Abarth’s as well as modified examples and other baby Fiats. These shots were taken in the Alpine town of Folgaria and personally I can’t think of a more perfect setting for a convoy of Fiat 500’s. Sun, scenery and a selection of one of the coolest cars of all time. Perfezione.

23 04 2010

I swear I’m regressing. All I can think about at the moment is 90’s Hot Hatches with wideboy bodykits and lairy split rims. It’s like I’m living in 1997 all over again.

Pizza Box

2 04 2010

I love Cinquecento Sportings, I had one for my first car, unfortunately it never looked quite as good as this one.
